“Sovereign Peoples in a Sovereign Europe”
European Free Alliance General Assembly

We, representatives of the European Free Alliance, gathered in Gandia, Valencian Country, reaffirm with conviction our vision of a Europe that is sovereign, democratic, and rooted in its peoples and territories.
Europe stands at a crossroad and must take control of its own future now. The democratic reform of the EU institutions cannot be postponed.
A sovereign Europe means defining its own political agenda, standing firmly for international law, and acting without servitudes in global affairs. It also means strengthening our resilience: achieving energy sovereignty through renewable sources, ensuring food sovereignty by supporting our farmers and ending unfair competition, and building economic sovereignty through a just and sustainable reindustrialization. Europe must end its dependence on external actors on strategic fields which weaken our autonomy and capacity.
But Europe will not be rebuilt from above.
We want a sovereign Europe that protects its peoples and upholds international law, cooperation and peace.
This transformation must be driven from the ground up. Territories, regions and cities are the true engines of Europe’s future, where democracy is closest to citizens and where solutions are most effective. As EFA we have always defended that Europe’s strength lies in its diversity and its bottom-up approach, in its ability to unite diversity through cohesion and cooperation, not uniformity through centralization.
That is why we recall Europe’s foundational ideals and claim direct funding, decision and implementation capacity for the territories, regions and cities to lead Europe’s transformation.
A more resilient and united Europe is most needed. It requires dialogue, cooperation, diplomacy and even going beyond our comfort zones and agreeing on disagreements. This will increase the EU political legitimacy and democracy and empower all European territories alike in a confederal spirit.
This is our path: a Europe of sovereign peoples, building together a sovereign Europe.
